Miami Heat

Adam enjoys a boat ride off the coast of Miami

The one thing I love about Atlanta is the weather.  You can enjoy all four seasons in the peach state, but I must admit it sure was nice to warm up in Miami this month.  I traveled down to South Florida to visit a friend for a couple of days and I picked the perfect weekend to do it.  It was sunny and 70 degrees in Miami which was beautiful compared to Atlanta’s freezing temperatures and sleet.

It was so beautiful in Miami we were able to take a boat ride off the coast of South Beach.  I was surprised to see so many people  relaxing on the beach.  The beach in January?  It must be nice.   We even found time to do a little deep sea fishing.  Let’s just say the fish weren’t biting.

I’m headed back for some more Miami Heat in March.  My good friend is getting married and I can’t think of a better place to enjoy the ceremony.  My wife and I plan to make a mini-vacation out of our trip just to thaw out.

Winter Wonderland

Brasstown Bald Snow

Brasstown Bald Snow

My wife and I spent the weekend with family in the North Georgia mountains this past weekend and much to our surprise we got to see some snow!  Temperatures dropped below freezing Saturday night and when we woke up Sunday the mountains were snow capped.

It was absolutely beautiful so we decided to drive to the top of Brasstown Bald to check it out.  Brasstown Bald is the highest point in Georgia and when we got to the top the trees were covered in snow.  I was surprised to see snow in November.  We usually don’t see it until February if we see it at all.

I love that we get to experience all four seasons in Georgia.  It was definitely a winter wonderland that put me in the holiday spirit!

The Biltmore

The Biltmore

The Biltmore

I did it! I finally did it!  I traveled to Asheville, North Carolina with my family this month to see America’s largest home.  It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I must say the Biltmore is larger than life.  I took this artistic photograph to illustrate what I’m talking about.

There are more than 250 rooms and 40 bathrooms inside the 175,000 square foot mansion.  If you’ve been there then you know what I’m talking about.  Otherwise, I would highly recommend you take the three hour drive to Asheville for a long weekend.  It’s a really neat city nestled in the North Carolina mountains.

We took the holiday candlelight tour of the Biltmore, but there are several others you can enjoy also.  Plus, there are several great restaurants in Asheville!!  Send me a comment and let me know what you think aboutI’d love to hear your stories about the Biltmore if you’ve

Historic Election

Clark Atlanta student reacts to historic election

I know this blog entry is long overdue, but I think it’s worth the wait.  I had the pleasure of witnessing history from a special place on election night.  I was assigned to report live at the student center on the campus of Clark Atlanta University.  There were more than a thousands students on hand when we arrived that evening.

Shortly before our 11 pm newscast the race was called in favor of Barack Obama.  At that very moment, the student center erupted with cheers, chants, and cries.  It was like nothing I had ever seen before.  I immediately called our newsroom and asked the producers to take us live.  No matter who you voted for it was a historic moment that became great television.  Most of the students were first time voters and for them it was a life changing experience!  I took several pictures with my camera phone that night including the one in this blog.

I will always remember election night and I’m sure the students at Clark Atlanta University will too!

My Little Devil

My English Bulldog Cleo dressed up as a Devil on Halloween!

My English Bulldog Cleo dressed up as a Devil on Halloween!

If you’re a pet lover like me then you’ll understand this blog entry.  Otherwise, you’ll probably think it’s a bit silly.  Anyway, my English Bulldog Cleo is a big part of our family so we decided to dress her up in a devil costume for Halloween this year!

She’s actually a very sweet little devil!  We rescued her four years ago from the Georgia Heartland Humane Society and she’s been such a wonderful addition to our family.  My wife and I both attended the University of Georgia so I guess you could say we’re biased.

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays and it’s even better when you can enjoy it with your pets!  Our Bulldog will tolerate just about anything including a devil costume once a year.

Social Circle Parade

Adam Murphy as Grand Marshall

Adam Murphy as Grand Marshall

I’ve had the opportunity to do a lot of wonderful things in my life, but being a in a parade wasn’t one of them.  That is until a few weeks ago.  I was so excited when the City of Social Circle asked me to be the Grand Marshall in their 14th annual Social Circle Friendship Festival.

I got to ride in a vintage Ford Shelby convertible right through the heart of one of Georgia’s greatest little cities.  Hundreds of people lined the streets to watch the parade and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.  Meanwhile, I simply enjoyed the moment!

Once the parade was over festival goers walked around and looked at all the vendors.  They had arts and crafts, good food and live musical entertainment.  I would personally like to thank Social Circle for their good ole fashioned Southern Hospitality!

If you’re ever headed out I-20 I would highly recommend you pay a visit to Social Circle.  They have one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at called the Blue Willow Inn.  It’s good southern food and fellowship at its finest!

Low Country Wedding

Angie & Adam Murphy

Just imagine smiling faces, beautiful places and a low country boil.  That’s what you’ll get when you attend a wedding along South Carolina’s coast.  My wife and I just visited the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach for a friends wedding and it was a blast!

We made a long weekend out of it by relaxing on the beach, spending time with friends and eating fresh seafood.  One of the best meals all weekend was the low country boil at big guy’s house.  He cooked shrimp, corn, sausage, chicken, potatoes and scallops all in one big pot.  I give it an A+.

It was definitely a low country wedding to remember.  One that makes you appreciate all that the Carolina coast has to offer.

Hellas

Santorini, Greece

Santorini, Greece

It’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth.  The locals call it Hellas and we call it Greece!  My wife and I recently traveled to this great country in Europe and it was definitely a sight to see.  We used our sky miles and flew direct on Delta which is about a 10 hour flight.

We toured around Athens for a day and then it was off to the islands.  Our first stop was Mykonos island which is famous for its beaches.  We spent three days there soaking up the sun and enjoying traditional Greek food.  Personally, I thought the food was fantastic.  You haven’t had a real Greek salad until you’ve ordered one in Greece.  It’s loaded with fresh tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, onions, olives and huge piece of feta cheese.  Oddly enough there was no lettuce in the salad.  It was so good that we ordered a Greek salad with almost every meal.

Our second stop was Santorini island which is a slice of heaven.  We spent three days there as well and the scenery was spectacular.  We relaxed on their red and black beaches.  Yes, the sand was red and black.  Plus, everywhere you looked there were little white houses with blue shutters and all of them had the most amazing view of the Aegean Sea.

If you’ve ever traveled to Hellas you know exactly what I’m talking about.  If not, I highly recommend that you go if you ever get the opportunity.

Athens to Athens

The Parthenon

The Parthenon

I can hardly wait to travel from Athens, Georgia to Athens Greece this weekend.  Angie and I will be cheering on our beloved Bulldogs in Athens, GA this Saturday and then we’ll turn around and leave for Athens, Greece on Sunday.

We’re going  to spend about nine days in Athens, Mykonos and Santorini.   We’re so excited about it!!!  My wife and I love to travel and we’ve heard Greece is a beautiful place.  Last year, we went to Sydney, Austrailia and two years ago we traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I’m definitely hooked on traveling around the world.  There are so many wonderful cultures and countries out there so if you have the opportunity to see them I simply say… Do it!

Top Dawgs

Bulldog Baptisim

Bulldog Baptism

I can almost feel the chill in the air… alright maybe not!  Anyway, football season is upon us and I’m already counting down the days to kickoff between the hedges.  If you haven’t figured it out yet I’m a big time Georgia Football fan and this year we’re the top dawg!

UGA is ranked # 1 in college football this season.  No pressure right?  I’ll be spending my weekends up in Athens cheering on my beloved bulldogs with 93,000 of my best friends inside Sanford Stadium.  I’ve had season tickets for 11 years now and I can hardly wait to catch a glimpse of this year’s squad and of course UGA VII.

Last year, I received a bulldog baptism of sorts from UGA VI at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.   Yeah, he licked me in the face while I was covering the game for CBS 46 News and it’s a moment I’ll always cherish!  I can only hope this football season will generate even more memories.  A national championship would be nice wouldn’t it?
